One former soldier who has won a medal at the Invictus Games is Martin Tye, formerly of The RLC.
The former Lance Corporal was medically discharged from The RLC after being injured in Kabul in 2009, when a suicide bomber drove into his vehicle. He lost the ability to walk.
Martin is competing in six of the sports at The Invictus Games 2017 – rowing, wheelchair rugby, powerlifting, athletics, wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball.
On the second day of The Invictus Games he won a bronze medal in shot put, one of the first medals for Team UK.
Martin told Forces News that the Invictus Games has had a profound impact on helping him to recover.
“I’m enjoying life again,” he said.
