Six marathons in six days for charity

Two soldiers from the 160th Infantry Brigade based at Brecon Barracks aim to run six marathons in six days to raise money to combat cancer.

Jamie Hutch and Tim Tucker will be tackling the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge beginning on 7 July undertaking a total distance of 140 miles taking in 7800 metres of ascent in just six days.

“We decided to push ourselves with a challenge that in all honesty, we don’t know that we can achieve,” said Jamie.

“We are supporting Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie as we have both lost family members to cancer, as well as know others who have battled or are still battling.”

Jamie lost his brother-in-law to cancer last year, while his mother is currently recovering from an operation to remove a tumour. His team partner, Tim, lost his sister to cancer quite recently too.

Tall order

The pair started training for their epic marathon back in January which included a spell training with their brigade at high altitude in Kenya where temperatures touched 40 degrees celsius.

The challenge will start on the Isle of Anglesey in the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiologogogoch and finish in Brecon, taking in the ascents of Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen-y-fan. It will average 23 miles per day so it’s a tall order.

Jamie and Tim will be live tracking the event and posting regular updates on their progress.
