Moore Family Donation

The RLC Museum is very pleased to announce that we have recently received a generous donation of objects from Mr Bob Moore and Maj (Retd) David Moore, together with Mrs Sue and Mrs Dianne Moore. The donation includes objects relating to three members of the Moore family, all of whom served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps (RAOC).

Amongst the items that they donated to us were the medal groups of Col Lionel Moore and Maj Wilfred Moore MBE and the Edward VII sword worn by Maj Samuel Moore. Together with a collection of shoot medals and photographs and archive, it provides a rich picture of life of the members of this family.

These excellent medal groups compliment the two medal groups of other members of the Moore family that the Museum already holds. The family has previously donated the medals of Samuel and Walter Moore. The result is that we now have a fine and extremely rare collection of medal groups from four members of the same family. This shows their strong connection to the British Army and, in particular, the RAOC.

Accepting the donation, on behalf of the Museum Trust, was Maj Gen Peter Chambers CB MBE, President of the RAOC Council. A long-time supporter of the Museum, we were delighted that Gen Chambers was available to be part of this event. This was organised by Trustee Brig (Rtd) Clive Elderton CBE, who we also extend our sincere thanks to.

We offer our sincere thanks the Moore family for their generosity and continued support of The RLC Museum. We are very proud to hold the heritage of this family, which has had such a long and noted association with the RAOC, one of the Forming Corps of The RLC.

If you have a donation that you are interested in making to The RLC Museum, please call us on 01252 833371. Although we are not able to take everything that is offered to us, we always wish to hear about what is available to us.
