A World War One Living History Display of Horse Transport and Supply

The Royal Logistic Corps Horse-Drawn Heritage team in conjunction with the RLC Museum will hold its annual showcase event 11 – 13 August 2023.
This free event is suitable for all the family and aims to highlight the horse transport and supply lines of the First World War. Team members will be on hand in authentic WW1 uniform to explain the life and work of a horse from 1914 onwards. There will be displays of many of the horse-drawn vehicles in the Heritage Team’s collection, including a General Service Wagon, Horse Ambulance, Water Cart and a Mess Cart. The Horse-Drawn Heritage Team will be joined by Jarvis Browning, a re-enactor, who displays a WW1 forge demonstrating the farrier skills of the time.
The three-day event will also have manned displays of veterinary equipment and skills, WW1 weapons and a Vickers Machine Gun. We will aim to demonstrate resupply to the trenches using pack horses and other means used in WW1. The horse ambulance will also demonstrate how injured horses were transported back to safety and treatment. There will also be a display of wheelwright equipment and a Bell tent to show the life of a soldier during 1914-18. A WW1 Soyer stove will provide sausages and bacon for visitors to purchase along with tea or coffee during their visit. The RLC Museum will be open to visitors who wish to continue to learn about logistics in the British Army and is free to enter.
