The RLC Forming Corps Associations

‘We are Centuries old and decades new’. Learn about The RLC’s Forming Corps and their associations.

The RLC was formed on 5 April 1993 from the amalgamation of the Royal Corps of Transport, the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, the Royal Pioneer Corps, the Army Catering Corps and the Postal and Courier Branch of the Royal Engineers. Our antecedents had a tradition of service to the Army and the Crown stretching back hundreds of years.

Royal Corps of Transport

With its earliest origins linking to the Commissariat, the RCT provided food and supplies to Oliver Cromwell’s New Model Army.

As well as being the King’s military treasurer and paymaster, the Master of Ordnance was responsible for supplying war materials.

The RLC Aquatics open water swimming team made history! Led by WO1 Shawn Bailey MBE, the incredible team completed a two-way swim across the English Channel, from England to France and back again, with a total swim time of 22 hours and 16 minutes. This phenomenal achievement marks them as the first ever mixed military relay team to conquer this feat, and the first in RLC history to do so. Since 1875, only 48 other teams have achieved this, and they are the only military team this century to join them.Through relentless training, unshakable determination, and exceptional skill, they also raised £7885 for military charities during our journey.
