Exercise (Northern) Red Sea

Exercise (Northern) Red Sea was a 156 Regiment RLC led sub aqua diving expedition to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt over the period in October 15.

Sharm El Sheikh, on Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, has clear warm waters and provides an ideal location for training and increasing diving experience. A group of eleven divers from various units, supervised by two Expedition Sub Aqua Dive Supervisors (ESADS) took part in the expedition. The aim of the exercise was to allow participants to progress to their next dive qualification and to expose expedition members to a challenging overseas dive environment, which provided controlled elements of risk.

Diving took place on five consecutive days which was followed by a 24 hour no dive period prior to the return flight to the UK. All diving was conducted IAW BRd 2806(5) and HSE Recreational Diving Approved Code of Practice and BSAC safe diving practices.

A total of 100 man dives were completed during the week in some spectacular underwater locations. Three personnel were upgraded from BSAC Ocean Diver to BSAC Sports Diver and three personnel completed 90% of their Dive Leader qualification with only a couple more dives left to complete.
