An overview of the year’s snowboarding successes and news!
The annual RLC Snowboarding Championships yet again proved a great success leading to further achievements in the Army Snowboarding Championships.
Located in the Flachau area just south of Salzburg teams from across Corps boarders gathered, ranging from old hands of the sport to those who had never set foot on a board before. The conditions were set from the off; a week intensive training, prior to focusing on specific disciplines in which each boarder competed against peers within their ability group. These disciplines being slalom and slope style.
This year saw the novice categories swell in numbers. The vast development from day one throughout the exercise and pure robustness of individuals was impressive. This is an encouraging sign for the sport as a whole; the development of the RLC team to compete as the team to chase in the Army championships in the next few years is looking promising.
The senior (open) riders kept pushing the limits of speed, agility and trick difficulties, tuning their skills for each competition and ultimately to gain a place on the Corps Team. Only a few broken bones to write home about, the team knew that they would put the Corps in good light in the forthcoming Army Champs.

On the back end of Ex LOGISTIC BOARDER comes the Army Snowboarding Championships.
Ex SNOW JACK 16 ‘ 13 Mar ‘ 27 Mar 16
The RLC Snowboarding team was selected from the best riders on Ex LOGISTIC BOARDER to represent the Corps at the Army Snowboarding Championships. The 3 weeks RLC champs proved to pay dividends with Corps members picking up silverware at the Army Champs. The Corps team had a training week prior to the Army Champs but the snow conditions were pretty poor. However, the Glacier didn’t disappoint and the hill team and Powder Works were able to deliver a high class event even though the weather wasn’t always on our side. As a Corps we identified that our best chance at winning silverware was in the Regt Team and Female category which we will develop on next year. On a look forward the Army Champs have grown massively over the last 5 years with Snowboarders from across the Army competing at the Brits. The RLC riders have massive potential and we hope to have riders selected for the Army Team next year. On the back on Ex SNOW JACK 16, WO1 Townley was selected as the deputy Army Team Manager giving the RLC a presence in the Army committee.

RLC Snowboarders would like to thank their CoC and the Corps for supporting the sport whether through authorisation to attend the exercises, advise and guidance on getting teams or individuals to and from the Flachau or supporting with grants.

Ex SNOWMETHOD ‘ 8 ‘ 22 Oct 16.
If you boarded before and want to start getting your instructor qualification, then Ex SNOWMETHOD is a great chance to do this. A week spend achieving BASI Level 1, followed by a concentrated Slope Style camp.
Ex LOGISTIC BOARDER 17 ‘ 14 Jan ‘ 4 Feb 17.
Fancy snowboarding and never set foot on a board, this is the exercise for you! Professional qualified instruction will get you up to speed and jibbing around the mountains in no time. Equally if you already board, open riders develop their skills further.
