The RLC Association Trust

The regimental activities of The RLC are funded through private funds held within The RLC Association Trust (Registered Charity No 1024036).

The RLC’s charitable funds comprise contributions from serving members of The RLC via the Day’s Pay Scheme (DPS), as well as investments from funds transferred to the trust by The RLC’s Forming Corps, which providing income and growth.

The Master General of Logistics as the titular Head of Corps, chairs the Trust Fund supported by a board of trustees representing the serving Corps, RLC Veteran community and four predecessor Corps (RCT, RAOC, RPC and ACC). The Forming Corps donated the Trust’s initial capital which having been invested has been the Corp’s financial underpinning for the last 25 years.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Trust are the promotion of the efficiency of The Royal Logistic Corps, support to fraternity and the relief of need for eligible personnel. Each year the Corps reports on the status of these funds.

INVESTING FOR THE FUTURE

All of the Trust’s investments are held in the Armed Forces Common Investment Fund. The investment performance continues to be strong and ahead of expectations; meeting fully objectives to grow the investments further. Despite the planned reductions in the size of the Corps, the Trust’s funds remain sufficient to support without detriment to Corps efficiency and those in need.

ACTIVITIES

The Trust supports the activities of The RLC the largest Corps in the Army totalling some 11,000 Regular and 4,000 Reserve soldiers. It funds and manages the fraternal activities of the Forming Corps across some 80 branches. Regular and veterans of The RLC, Forming Corps and trained RLC Reservists are eligible for benevolence support. The RLC communicates with the Corps and our associations is through the RLC website, ‘The Sustainer’, the ‘RLC Foundation Review’ plus a total of 10 newsletters. These means of communication are funded by the Trust. Grants are made to support sport and adventurous training, including shared use of the adventurous training lodge (Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre) in the Lake District.

PUBLIC BENEFIT

Responsibilities extend to the wider community; the Corps Open Day (provided free of charge to the public), The RLC Museum (which receives a grant) and other heritage including close links with the Tower of London and our four dedicated Livery Companies. The Corps funds Freedom Parades, the Silver Stars Parachute Display Team, Bands and Corps of Drums, which perform at a wide range of public events providing closer ties with society in general. The RLC Foundation promotes professional excellence within the Corps.

HOW TO APPLY

All applications for funding must be approved by the Board of Trustees. All applications should be made in writing (via email is acceptable), supported by a business case, or applicable admin instruction, along with an income and expenditure forecast. DAY’S PAY SCHEME

Introduced in 1964, this Army-wide system is for voluntary subscriptions to Corps charities from all serving regular officers and soldiers.
