Chefs “cook-off” for Ex Joint Caterer

Army Chefs had to compete in a gruelling ‘cook off’ to land a place on Exercise Joint Caterer.

The selection process for each team to make the Ex is rigorous, with chefs having to earn their place at the Food Services Wing at Worthy Down during ‘cook offs’ which take place under competition conditions.

Each competitor must prepare and serve their dish within a limited time, where it is then judged by a panel of Senior Army Chefs.

Once the team has been selected, preparations begins in earnest and, as the Army is the current reigning champions, each individual will ensure that they can fully demonstrate the versatility and outstanding technical expertise of the modern Army chef.

Ex Joint Caterer is the annual flagship event for Armed Forces and MOD civilian contractors, allowing chefs from across all three Services to compete in a wide range of culinary classes, with the main focus on operational catering.

The aim of the competition is to challenge chefs at the highest level and to demonstrate the ways in which military caterers can support operations whilst honing their craft.
