Last week the Colonel Commandant of The Corps of Army Music (CAMUS), Lieutenant General Tim P Evans, CBE, DSO, visited The Band of the Royal Logistic Corps at Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut. Lieutenant Evans is new to the honorary post of Colonel Commandant of CAMUS which is an additional responsibility to his main role as Commander ARRC Support Battalion.
Lt General Evans was hosted by The Director of the Corps of Army Music, Colonel B W Jenkins and the Commandant of Defence College of Logistics, Policing and Administration (DCLPA), Brigadier Shirley MBE. Lt General Evans enjoyed a special performance from the Band of The Royal Logistic Corps, treating him to some classics like a medley of Bond theme music and some new pop favourites including a performance of ‘Rather Be’ by Clean Bandit (ft. Jess Glynne).
The Band of The Royal Logistic Corps has recently become a multi-capability band, and the performances from the day included a combination of the rock band, the big band and the show band. The Band of The Royal Logistic Corps was also joined by the electric string quartet of The Countess of Wessex String Orchestra for this special performance.
The Band of the Royal Logistic Corps, Director of Music Captain Craig Bywater said “It was a great opportunity to present to our own Colonel Commandant the versatility within the RLC band, its capability and the up to date modern genre of music that we are currently performing.â€
The Director of the Corps of Army Music also delivered a presentation to the Colonel Commandant on CAMUS Short Term Training Teams (STTT) abroad; which is the ongoing work being done by CAMUS in assisting the development of other military musicians around the world, particularly in less privileged countries.
Members of the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps have supported the last five of these training programmes, with musicians travelling to Malawi, Botswana, Bermuda, Ethiopia,Lebanon and the Balkans.
