RLC Squash Championships 2018

This year’s RLC Squash Championships were held at the slightly earlier date of 30 Oct to 1 Nov 18 at Winchester Racquets and Fitness Club.

Despite competition entries being slightly down this year due to Corps commitments, three full days
and over 200 matches of squash were enjoyed by all who attended.

In total, 56 players entered across five competition categories which were: Open, closed/novice, ladies, veterans and team. Additionally, a plate competition was run for those players who were knocked out in the early rounds of the open and closed competitions.

To celebrate 25 years of the Corps, the annual squash dinner this year was attended by guests who
had previously represented both the forming Corps, RLC and Army competitively at squash with
guests travelling from as far afield as the Greek islands.

The outgoing Chairman of RLC Squash, Maj Chris O’Brien presented the prizes to the winners.

Army Inter Corps Squash Championships 2018
Despite arriving at this prestigious event without four selected Corps players (committed on Ex) and
only two reserves (who were both carrying injuries), the players in attendance produced some
outstanding squash.

The RLC A Team, hoping to merely consolidate in Division 1, played some tough matches and after a nail biting final match versus the RE A Team, managed to scrape a 3-2 win to secure the runner up spot in Division 1 of Army squash.

A special mention goes to the secretary of RLC squash, WO2 Andy Black who “grizzed” his match against the RE and pulled off an emphatic 3-1 win.

Special mention also goes to the RLC B Team which was short on players and experience but managed to consolidate in Division 2 and remain safe for another year.

Anyone interested in playing RLC squash should contact the secretary on 94731 2065.
