Girls on Film

Female Journalists from the national media were issued their own mission and tasks as they became Troop Commanders for the day on the Log Safari.  Film crews, photographers, set directors and production assistants were on hand to ensure all the challenges in their ” day in the life of an RLC Officer” were captured.

Log Safari is a dynamic, interactive look at the Core functions of the RLC; supply, distribution, movement control, maritime, food and ammunition services. The journalists were filmed as they charged through rough terrain on a supply challenge, led a convoy delivering humanitarian aid to some front line units, were let loose in a field kitchen to prepare their own lunch and even got to detonate a suspect package.

The inspiration behind the Log Safari, Maj Kathryn Heppinstall RLC, said “Log Safari is one of our best recruiting tools. It show cases the RLC in a fast paced, fun environment.  We have had groups from Sandhurst, Potential Reservists, Civilian Employers and even DSTL Scientists have had a go at our logistic challenges”.

“This was the best Tuesday ever” said Lucy Gormall (News and ShowBiz editor, Now magazine) “I had no idea you did so many different things”.  “Fantastic!  All young people should do this and see how the Army works” said Michelle Kortekass (Art Designer, Marie Claire) we were looking at the opportunities available to females in the Army and this has been both brilliant fun and informative. Our readers will be very impressed”
