6 Regt joins Sunderland AFC war memorial

6 Regiment representatives have played their part in commemorating the country’s war heroes at the last home game at Sunderland AFC before Remembrance Sunday.

Serving military personnel, veterans’ groups and families of those who have lost their lives in the service of their country, attended the Black Cats game against Southend United at the Stadium of Light on Saturday 2 Nov.

In addition to the members of 6 Regt RLC, representatives were also in attendance from the Army, Royal Navy and RAF.

A poppy wreath was laid at the club’s war memorial ahead of the game and soldiers from the Royal Signals paraded around the pitch and formed a guard of honour. The Last Post sounded and a traditional period of silence was observed by players, staff and supporters just prior to kick off.

The lads wore special one-off match shirts bearing the traditional poppy emblem, which will be auctioned to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

This was the fifteenth consecutive year in which military personnel have joined Sunderland AFC and its fans to support the country’s annual Remembrance Commemorations.
