500 mile run in aid of NHS Covid-19 workers

An RLC Staff Sergeant is to run 500 miles over 35 days in order to help support frontline NHS staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

SSgt Russell Martin, CET Team SSgt, will begin the run on 24 Apr, run 14.28 miles per day (with no rest in between) and finish the challenge on 28 May.

“The start date is special as it is the birthday of my wife’s brother, who sadly is no longer with us, the NHS looked after him until his last breath and I have the upmost respect for all who work within this arena,” said Russell.

“Being a fellow Scotsman I saw it fitting to run 500 miles. I have chosen 35 days as I will turn 35 years old on the last day of this gruelling challenge which will be physically and mentally testing on my body and mind.”

Daily updates of Russell’s runs will be automatically sent from STRAVA to his just giving page, an easy way for his supporters to keep up with his distance, times and routes.

He will also be updating his supporters with live running video links which can be viewed through Facebook, showing people his progress.

Russell’s fundraising target is currently sitting at £500. Funds generated will be granted to NHS Charities supporting the health and emotional well-being of those at the frontline of treating coronavirus patients.
