157 Regt undertakes annual training camp

157 (Welsh) Regiment Royal Logistic Corps has gone back to basics for its two-week Annual Commitment Training camp – Exercise Lion Star 6 in Cyprus.

This year the Regt was joined on the exercise by members of 33 Squadron, 4 Regiment RLC and other reservists from 156 Regiment RLC and 167 Catering Support Regiment RLC.

Ex Lion Star 6 took place in the Western Sovereign Based Area on the south of the island, near Episkopi Garrison and was designed to put soldiers through their paces in the basic soldiering skills of weapons handling, marksmanship, field and battle craft and military fitness.

Following the requisite briefs and orientation, the soldiers launched in to a comprehensive range package over four days which confirmed their marksmanship skills on not only their personal weapon, the SA80 rifle, but also on pistol and the General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG).

They then deployed on an infantry-based Field Training Exercise (FTX). Serials included patrols, ambushes and a challenging dawn attack on an abandoned village.

The final phase of the exercise saw the soldiers put through their paces on a Military Skills Competition which culminated in some Battle PT (physical training) on the beach and a traditional stretcher race.

There was some downtime too with the exercising troops getting in some adventurous training, provided by the Military Training Wing at Tunnel Beach, a sports day and a cultural visit to the both Curium Amphitheatre and Tomb of the Kings near Paphos.
